Rabbit

Koons signature works feature simple imagery transformed into sculptures using the finest of materials. Some of his art work has sold for as much as 1.8 million dollars and others for much higher. what is so fantastic about this is his renowned reconigition for the balloon man. What makes his different though is that he doesn't make balloon animal's but sculptures of them. Jeff doesn't hand work on these pieces him self, he will jot down idea and thoughts he has. he then will collaborate with his 35 assitants in his studio to help him come up with what it should be made of the size texture etc. As he quotes "I'm basically the idea person. I'm not physically involved in the production. I don't have the necessary abilities, so I go to the top people..." I find it fascinating how he comes up with these ideas and works with a team to put it together and fit.

As we take one of his sculptures that captured my eye when we look at his balloon sculpture would be 'Rabbit". Koons has stated that he wants to reveal a certain aspect of the objects personality. He trys to look for materials and things that can bring his sculpture and object to life and more realistic. This 1986 "Rabbit" sculpture symbolized a very realistic and balloon inflatable rabbit. this is what he wants you to believe. Though it is actually casted in hard stainless steel with the measurements of 41 x 19 and 19x 12 inchs. Rabbit addresses the time of luxury and consumerism in the 1980s. What makes this look inflatable and the look of a real balloon object is its polished surface which gives a reflection of cool and smooth when looked upon. As Koons quotes “Polished objects have often been displayed by the church and by wealthy people to set a stage of both material security and enlightenment of spiritual nature; the stainless steel is a fake reflection of that stage.” This is just a little steel Rabbit but we can see the depth and mind that goes into it from Koons perspective.

As i look to this sculpture to resemble something i cant it reminds me of many things. As this one is made from stainless steel some of his other are made from cast aluminium, and then painted to give the effects of a real balloon. I can compare this to the puppy int he way that it symbolizes and represents allot of different things. Kid are fascinated by balloon toys and animals and what better way to display your work then across a wide so and of audience. We see how he takes another theme or image such as bunnys, dogs, and other animals so people can relate to it. Instead of art being extravagant and based on one thing we see how he finds a image that nearly anyone can relate to. That's what i find so great about him and his work. Although its time consuming and one can enjoy his work and in some ways relate to it.

Jeff Koons Puppy

Jeff Koons again amazes us again with this beautiful art work of this enormous puppy. As we look at this image its incredible that he can make large scale Art pieces like this. What also is amazing is how he makes things like this work. This puppy is made from stainless steel, it also has a water system in side of it that functions throughout the whole piece. We can also see geotextile fabric, and various colors in the flowers to make it form a whole piece. This is a massive size model with it being 43 feet high. It has been moved around to several locations the latest in 2000 at New York. This would truly be a site to see and something that people go to see allot.

Koons uses many different things and way to perform his art work. Some of his most typical type of work deal with kitsch imagining, and of course he is known for his massive scale models. This was installed at Guggenheim Museum in Spain. It was made after a West Highland Terrier, we don't really know if he had a fixation with this breed of dog or why he picked it. Like most of his art work like the previous Michael Jackson one he likes to enlarge things beyond their normal size. He works in variety as he also has adopted to be somewhat of a balloon man with his inflatable sculptures and art pieces. This Puppy is fr the city of Bilbao, which hold over 25 tons of soil watered by an irrigation system. As we look at the detail and time out into this we can count over 70,000 flowers ranging in all different colors and types, a few such as marigolds, and petunias. As many people travel to see this huge sculpture we can think of what made him make this but simply can think that who doesn't love a giant puppy.

When I look at this can think of what it reminds me of its kind of hard and yet very simple. We see dogs and cats, and animals in our everyday life. What we don't know if how much we can connect ourselves to these creatures. Dogs are mans best friend as the sain goes and maybe that's what he was trying to prevail. That we are with these animals all the time and don't think about how important or how they can benefit us. I see him making this sculpture to give credit to animals or in this case the Dog which deserves respects just like everything else.

Jeff Koons-Michael Jackson & Bubbles 1988

As I looked through his work this image was one that definitely captured my eye. This porcelain statue of Michael Jackson and Bubbles was incredibly beautiful. With Koons main objective to bring everyday fantasies and objects into fantastic and flawless art pieces. We see the amazing detail and texture gradient that he holds in a simple but complex art form like this one.

With this great and highly viewed pop culture icon we can see how he brings it to near life. Koons doesn't always do the art work him self, he will hire other artist and workers to help create his life like objects. Koons had an Italian craftsmen to fabricate the sculpture for him, designing it with a very slick and shiny looking surface. What we can see for the context of this sculpture is postmodernism as Koons was a major part of. Most likely have to be towards the capitalistic consumer, and this object or sculptor could value lust. The reason for that is Michael Jackson popularity and fame and how he transformed his body but we can capture him how he truly was through art work like this.

As the art work could be just a simple fascination with the Pop star or for the representation that this star holds. This art work reminds me and in a somewhat different way resembles to Andy Warhol. As Andy took this common objects and icons and in the way of painting or repetition idolized these people like Jackson which he has done paintings of. Also as both of these men were involved in the Neo-Pop Art movement works like these were what they were really aiming for and what the mostly consisted of. Both these artists take what we see everyday and transform it into their own way that they see art and how they believe it should be represented.

Introduction

Jeff Koons was birn in 1955 in New York Pennsylvania. He first studied art at the Art Institue of chicage, while also reaciving a honors doctorates from the School of Art in Chicago. What makes koon so great is that he picks objects from popular culture, which tansforms regualar objects into amazing icons. His work is different by his dramatic shift in scale, he also blended methods of Pop, Conceptual, and appropriation art with craft making to create his own iconography.
